Meet Coach Sam

B.Bus (Sport & Management)
Weightlifting Coach
Personal Trainer
ASCA Strength & Conditioning Coach
Masters NSW & Australian Gold
Hello my name is Sam Struthers,
I've been a Personal Trainer for over 15 years, working with all sorts of clients, athletes, injuries, ages and training goals.

From long ago beginnings at Fitness First, to working out of a Rugby Club, to owning a small North Sydney Gym; I'm now focused on building an amazing weightlifting club and community right here in North Sydney.

I've lifted weights since uni days at UTS, starting in 2000, but didn't start dedicating my training to Olympic weightlifting until about 2015 when I joined Oddsocks, under ex Australian coach, and ever watchful eye of Steve Tikkanen.

Why Weightlifting?
  • It's the most powerful sport in the world, making everybody stronger and faster
  • At my age, it forces you to look after yourself: - mobility, strength, rehab, prehab; it's the ultimate sport I believe for self preservation
  • You chave the chance to compete! Yes, once you're confident enough I love nothing more than taking clients to NSW and Australian registered or publically open competitions!
If you're new to the sport, new to the gym, a cross fitter looking to refine Olympic lifting skills, please feel free to get in touch and see how we can help you.
Everyone Welcome.

Happy training,
Sam

About Our Weightlifting Club in North Sydney:
Olympic lifting is a technical support requiring strength, positioning, timing and flexibility to improve. As a coach and a club we offer:
  • A supportive environment
  • Technical support to improve your movement and efficiency
  • Strong foundations in Posture and Movement
  • And specific conditioning for athletes.
  • All our athletes are corporate workers from around Sydney, and from all backgrounds of the world. This is a trait which differentiates gym and weightlifting clubs from most other sports; it's an individual sport, but you train, learn and succeed as a team with all age groups and all backgrounds. We like to encourage this diversity because you truly will meet amazing people who would never otherwise enter your lives. So please don't ever be intimidated to reach out!
  • If you're interested in weightlifting, we welcome you! I don't care if you're a beginner, in town for a short stay, done Crossfit or whatever, if you're a good person, and you'd like to lift, don't let any barriers stop you.
